FORGOT your password?

  1. Use iforgot.rice.eduto reset your NetID password
  2. Current Rice faculty, staff, and students may use to reset NetID passwords. The Password Reset system sends a reset PIN to a cell phone previously registered in under the Rice University Emergency Notification System.  
  3. If you receive Rice U Critical Announcements as text messages on your cell phone, it is already registered. SKIP TO STEP 7.
  4. If not, go to and login with your Employee or Student number and your Esther PIN.
  5. The first link after you login to Esther is usually for the Rice University Emergency Notification System.
  6. Select the Emergency Notification System link and add a cell phone that can receive text messages, and select your Cell Service Provider, and "Self" for Relationship.
  7. Scroll to the bottom of the page and Confirm your Information.
  8. Exit  (It may take up to 24 hours for the new emergency contact to be transferred to the system.)
  9. Go to and select Reset Password.
  10. Enter your Rice email address and your Employee or Student Number, then select Submit.
  11. A long reset PIN (12 characters) will be be texted to your cell phone with a link to reset your NetID password.  Use the link on your cell phone to open the correct web browser.
