Connect to the Campus Network

Wired Connection

Instructions for plugging into the wired campus network can be found in IT Tutorials.  Remember, the wired network is 20 times faster than the wireless network, so if you are downloading many or large files, plug in and save time.

• Connect your on-campus computer to the Rice network
• Connect off-campus (remote) computers to the Rice network
• Off-campus (remote) computers must use VPN to access most Rice network resources
• Remote control your Rice computer from off-campus (remote) computers

Wireless Connection

Rice Visitor is a good wireless network for just surfing the Internet, but if you need to connect to Rice resources for your class or research projects, you must be connected to the secure wireless network, Rice Owls.  Instructions for connecting to both networks can be found in IT Tutorials.

• Connect your cell phone smart phone, or PDA to the wireless Rice network
