Storage for My Data and Files 

All your personal files can now be stored in the space allocated to your Rice NetID account in the network. Some customers call this personal storage space their "home directory." In addition to increased space (up from 100 MB in the old Owlnet system), the new enterprise class storage area is backed up automatically several times each day.

Storage Space

As soon as your NetID is established, you are automatically assigned a specific amount of electronic storage space. You can track your quota usage in the IT Self-Service page.

For individuals:

• 1 GB for undergraduate students
• 2 GB for graduate students and staff members
• 3 GB for faculty

For Rice colleges, departments, centers, and institutes

• 20 GB shared space for entire department

Map a drive for your storage space

Whenever you are logged into a Rice computer, you can save your files and images to your storage folder (students typically map their storage folder to their U: drive and so "U drive" has become a slang reference for personal storage space at Rice. Subversion

Subversion is a free/open-source version control system. That is, Subversion manages files and directories, and the changes made to them, over time. This allows you to recover older versions of your data, or examine the history of how your data changed. In this regard, many people think of a version control system as a sort of "time machine".
